Here comes the summer

This time of the year I always ask myself the same question: if the days are getting shorter how come they’re also getting hotter? And now it’s that humid, heavy heat, the one that makes you tired just walking; and if you’re doing anything more energetic, like watering the plants, you’re left feeling horribly sticky and exhausted. The plants are just about holding on but it’s not so colourful now, except for all the flowers in pots on the verandah….

Flaming July

The last blog post featured our walks. I suppose I need to start this one with the fact that today’s Friday walk has been cancelled. This is partly because it’s boiling hot, 35ºC, but also because the sky is heavy with smoke and it’s a bit depressing being outside. Life in the sun

I suppose we have to start with Betty. She’s had a lump on her back leg for a number of years now, it’s never affected her walking (or indeed chasing after anything) so we’ve not bothered to have it seen to. Then over the last few weeks it became larger and redder and she seemed a tad lethargic. A wound appearing meant we had no choice but to take her to the vet’s to have the lump removed. Given her…
